Do pizzas, ice creams, French fries, cookies and candies list high on your kid’s agenda for snacks. And despite you telling your kids innumerable times, they still swear by junk and unhealthy foods for snacks. Giving in for there desire for junk food is paving way for your kids to be obese.

Just as charity begins at home, good nutrition and balance diet habits start at home. The way of life today is fast paced wherein an adult is always on the move. The same applies to your children too. It is essential to have healthy snacks handy which your kids can grab on the move.

Early encouragement for smart eating habits, improved nutritious diet early in life could make your child healthy. Even if you can not stand on their heads 24*7, there are many ways where you can give them well balanced diet and life all round.

Ravenous and famished after school, you’re kid is likely to grab something from the fridge or kitchen shelf for snacks. After school snacking plays an important part of every child’s diet, as it could several hours since they last ate and they need nourishment, especially when they have to settle down, do homework and indulge in playful activities. Think of snacks as an opportunity to supplement children’s diet with healthy food. It guarantees the nutrition they deserve as well as curbs hunger pangs in between meals.

Make snack time nibbles attractive and hassle free. Prepare small portions of snacks and leave them in easy to find places like kitchen shelf, fridge or dining table. The healthiest and simplest choice for snacks is fresh fruits and raw vegetables requiring minimum preparation time.

Some good suggestions of kid friendly healthy snacks include:

1. Make fruit salads with kid’s favourite fruits. Prepare them in small batches from fresh fruits and freeze them.

2. Dry fruits like raisins or apricots and fresh fruits like apples, oranges, watermelons, and bananas.

3. Sandwiches with peanut butter, tuna or lean meat cuts.

4. Yoghurt, plain or flavoured or milkshakes made with low fat or skimmed milk. Dry cereals or cornflakes served with fruit and low fat milk.

5. Fresh fruit juices like orange, watermelon, grapefruit or frozen juice bars.

6. Hard-boiled eggs with a slice of whole wheat bread, peanuts, pretzels or crackers.

7. Ready to eat cut up veggies like carrots, cucumbers, and celery. Unbuttered popcorns, wheat crackers or whole grain muffins served with low fat cheese dip.

8. Fruit Smoothie made in a blender with fresh fruits, juice and yoghurt.

9. Yoghurt dessert with layers of low fat yoghurt, fruits and veggies.

You can spice up your kid’s snack time with variety of foods… Get your children to make the snacks menu for the week. Serve small portions instead of a big one. Let them learn to be hungry, rather than feel full and stuffed close to lunch or dinner time.

Healthy eating and physical fitness go together, but there are no magic foods that cause you to be one hundred percent healthy by just eating the one food. No, you need a variety of foods from each of these food groups each day. It’s also important to watch the portion size so as not to overeat. Make your mealtimes pleasant and relaxed occasions and your healthy foods will work effectively with your healthy emotions to give you a healthy body.

Berries

You may like all types of berries or just one or two favorites, but you can never go wrong by adding a few fresh berries as a quick energy snack or frozen berries made into a luscious smoothie in place of calorie laden desserts. Berries are high in vitamin C across the board, but some are high in other nutrients as well. Choose ripe blueberries for vitamin C and heaps of anti-oxidants for the health of your circulatory system. Gogi berries are less well-known but are wonderfully rich in many of the nutrients your body needs to be nutritionally and physically fit.

Citrus

The foods of the citrus family are widely recognized as a valuable source of vitamin C. Choose fully ripe citrus fruits for the best nutritional value and choose citrus as near to the tree as possible. Tree ripened fruits picked at the peak of perfection and consumed with hours of picking give you the top nutritional rating. Try grapefruit for breakfast. Add a dash of fresh squeezed lime to your salad as a dressing and enjoy slices of orange with coconut in a light honey dressing for dessert.

Vegetables

The variety of vegetables is amazing. For people who are vegetarian or vegan, choosing vegetables to be part of a nutritionally sound diet is a way of life. Your vegetable group provides many of the minerals required in a good diet. For example, you may realize that potassium is necessary for healthy nutrition. Many people claim the benefits of potassium found in a single banana. But did you know, you can also get adequate potassium in your diet by eating a stalk of broccoli? Try a salad of fresh young spinach topped with pine nuts and stirred with lightly cooked penne’. Feta cheese and a light vinaigrette dressing to create the perfect light luncheon meal.

Whole Grains

Like many other of the best foods, choosing only one type of whole grain for your meals doesn’t provide all the variety you need to be nutritionally sound. Often, mixing two or more whole grains together will give you complete proteins. For example, brown rice and wheat kernels with a spicy seasoning are a popular dish in many countries.

Salmon

Salmon is lean fish and nutritionally one of the best fish choices. It is rich in Omega-3 oils that are noted as helping improve the functioning of the brain. Salmon baked whole with just lemon or lime as a seasoning makes a fantastic main dish or a hearty luncheon featured menu item. Salmon is also commonly found in chilled seafood dishes.

Legumes

A legume is the name for a variety of fruits with a single dry seed. Legumes are sometimes called pods. Examples of edible legumes are soybeans, peas, dried beans and peanuts, among others. Legumes are rich in iron and high in fiber, making them excellent nutritional choices. Peanuts are a type of legume that have been used to make hundreds of different products some edible and others with various types of helpful uses.

Nuts and seeds

Nature has packed a lot of goodness into small packages. Most everyone has heard of walnuts and pecans which are very good nutritional products, but did you realize that flax seeds are brain food–containing critical non-meat sources of the Omega-3 oil.

Lean proteins

The keyword here is lean. Americans eat far too much protein compared to the rest of the world. Cut down of portion sizes–three ounces will provide all the needed protein needed for your day. Also, trim all visible fat from your protein source. Alternatively, use non meat substitutes such as the complete proteins found in vegetable dishes like beans and brown rice.

Tea

Depending on the type of tea you prefer, you can get an energy boost from a cup of green tea, or the calming effect of chamomile tea. Get going with mint teas or start your day with Earl Grey Breakfast Tea. Herbal teas are soothing, tasty and good for you. Non herbal teas will help you to stay alert when you need help to function.

Olive oil

Olive oil is probably the healthiest substance you can use to keep fat in your diet. You can use it on your salad, mix it with a little vinegar to create your own, or fry other foods in the hot oil. Just make sure that the temperature is not too hot so that the oil is broken down.

Safe steps in food handling, cooking, and storage are essential to avoiding food borne illness. You can’t see, smell, or taste bacteria which may be on any food.

Here are 4 steps to food safety :

1. Clean:

Wash your hands, utensils, and all surfaces with hot soapy water, before and after preparing food.

Wash cutting boards with hot, soapy water after each use.

Use paper towels or cloth towels to clean kitchen surfaces. Be sure to wash cloth towels often in the hot cycle of your washing machine.

Wash all fruits and vegetables well under running water.

2. Separate:

Wash hands, cutting boards, dishes, and utensils with hot, soapy water after they touch any raw meat, poultry, or seafood.

Use one cutting board for fresh produce and another for raw meats.

Never place cooked food back on the same plate that previously held raw food.

Separate and keep sealed all raw meats from other foods in your grocery cart and refrigerator.

Do not reuse marinades that were used for raw meat, poultry or seafood, unless it is boiled before reusing.

3. Cook:

Use a food thermometer to measure the food’s internal cooking temperature to ensure safe cooking.

Use the Safe Cooking Food Chart to determine safe internal temperatures.

When using a microwave, cover, stir, and rotate food during cooking.

Throw away leftovers that have been reheated once already.

4. Chill:

Refrigerate or freeze perishables within 2 hours.

Thaw foods in the refrigerator, in cold water, or in the microwave, if you are cooking it immediately.

Separate large amounts of leftovers into small, shallow containers.

Don’t overstuff the refrigerator.

Keep foods out of the Temperature Danger Zone, between 40ºF and 140ºF, where bacteria grow rapidly.

Throw out foods that spoil easily, such as meat and dairy, that are left out at room temperature for more than 2 hours.

Allergic reactions can manifest themselves in many different physical ways, most of them extremely unpleasant. In the case of environmental allergens such as hay fever or pet dander, it is possible to limit allergic reaction severity by focusing on a diet that boosts the body’s ability to fight off reaction effects. Many of the materials that are found in medicinal allergy relief are extracted from naturally occurring ingredients in certain foods and drinks, and including these in your diet will help to alleviate your allergic symptoms. It is important to remember that these foods are for fighting environmentally triggered allergies only, and the only way to avoid food allergy symptoms is to avoid the food that cause it.

Green tea is quickly making a name for itself as a general purpose, natural cure-all. Recent studies have shown that green tea may help to combat environmental allergies as one of its many treatment applications. In an article published in The Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, Japanese scientists claim to have isolated a compound found in green tea that blocks one of the cell receptors that is key in triggering the allergic response. Because green tea is less processed than any other kind of tea, its natural composition remains unaltered and thus the compounds within it are more concentrated and better able to produce results than those found in different varieties of tea.

The acids found in Omega-3 fatty acids also are beneficial in fighting allergies, as the acid acts as a natural anti-inflammatory by countering the formation of inflammatory chemicals. There are several foods which are very high in Omega-3 fatty acids, including several kinds of seafood and fish; salmon, haddock, herring, trout, mackerel, and sardines are all full of these acids. Other sources of Omega-3 fatty acids are soybeans, flaxseed, walnuts, and canola, and the fatty acids are also available in a more concentrated version through the oils derived from these foods. These oils can easily be included in your daily meals by adding them to the ingredients for your cooking.

Foods that have a high level of Vitamin E are also excellent in combating allergic reactions. Some of these foods include greens, which are also very strong-tasting. Spinach greens, mustard greens, chard and mustard greens are all very high in Vitamin E. The highest Vitamin E food is far and away dried sunflower seeds, which contain almost 91% of the recommended daily intake of the vitamin. Almonds are also high in Vitamin E, as are olives, papaya, and fresh blueberries. Any of these foods are an easy addition to a regular diet.

One last food to consider when thinking about intakes that will limit your allergic reactions are juices. Natural fruit juices are high in antioxidants, which help to fight the inflammatory effects that allergies produce. Make sure when you buy juice, though, that it is indeed natural. Many juices on the market do not contain a lot of natural juice, and it is the natural juice that is essential when it comes to containing antioxidants.

HYDROGENATED FATS

We have heard it said that we eat too much fat and that fat consumption has risen in the last 20 years, and we are becoming an increasingly obese nation. While the later of these statements is true, statistics have since proven the former is false. See, fat consumption has not changed: what has changed is the type of fats people eat.

Today, more and more people are getting the majority of their fats from “manmade” hydrogenated fats and other harmful polyunsaturated oils such as palm and corn oil. As long as 20, 30, or 50 years ago, people ate a diet which consisted of more naturally occurring fats and oils, such as butter, coconut oil, lard, olive oil, and tallow (fats from red meat and lamb).

“…fat consumption has not changed: what has changed is the type of fats people eat.” Now, our diets are polluted with hydrogenated fats. These types of fats have been clearly linked to slowing our bodies’ metabolic processes and have also been shown to cause heart disease and cancer.

The reason these fats are particularly harmful to us is because polyunsaturated and hydrogenated oils have been subjected to damaging industrial processes (literally restructuring them), which has rendered them toxic. Their new “trans molecular structure” has not, until recently, been incorporated into human physiology and is therefore unrecognizable to the human body. Since their introduction to our diets, just in the last century, these unhealthy oils have been linked to heart disease, cancer, and other degenerative diseases.

The best examples of a polyunsaturated oil is corn, cottonseed, canola, vegetable… and any derivative of hydrogenated or partially hydrogenated oils.

Make no mistake, these toxic fats should be avoided at all costs. By avoiding sugar and hydrogenated fats, you will:

Improve concentration and mental clarity (along with short-term memory);
Enhance your immune system;
Slow the aging process;
Reduce fat on the abdomen area;
Eliminate future “junk-food” cravings.
The way I see it, the real problem is the food industry—which thrives on the sales of sugar and “fake” fat-containing foods.

They have succeeded in brainwashing the public and suppressing the scientific findings that eating whole foods, which contain little to no sugar, and meats and oils, which contain naturally occurring saturated fats do not contribute to heart disease (like they claim) and are, in fact, a healthy way to boost your metabolism, stabilize your cholesterol levels, improve your immune system, and provide energy and structural integrity to literally every living cell in your body.

Therefore, to avoid these toxins, here’s all you do tomorrow:

Daily Energy Exercise: Rid Toxins from Your Life
Take about 10 minutes to check the food labels and ingredients panels on the foods in your cupboards, refrigerator, and on the counters in your kitchen.

WHAT TO LOOK FOR?
Any foods that list sugar, dextrose, sucrose, fructose, corn syrup, or maltodextrin as the first, second, or third ingredient. These are typically things like soda, breakfast cereals, and white-flour products like bread. Any foods that list hydrogenated, partially hydrogenated, or corn, palm, or cottonseed oils. These are typically things like processed, frozen, and nearly all deep-fried foods and even some nutrition bars and most meal replacements/protein drinks. (Not Eat-Smart, however!) Make a special trip to the grocery store to pick up items to replace these harmful toxic foods.

Instead of soda, use water (preferably), sugar-free Crystal Light, iced tea, or on occasion even diet soda.

Instead of breakfast cereals, use whole oats or grits.

Instead of white-flour products, use whole-wheat or soy-flour type products.

Simply instruct yourself that you WILL NOT eat deep fried foods any longer (like French fries, chips, etc.). Deep-fried foods and the oils they’re cooked in have no nutritional health benefits whatsoever.

Replace your salad dressings and cooking oils with healthy oils like flaxseed oil, olive oil, sesame oil, and walnut oil.

Read your labels carefully… manufacturers are tricky about trying to hide these harmful ingredients. (Now you know why!)

Unwanted hair is a problem for both women and men. While historically women have primarily sought out professional assistance for hair removal, more and more men are seeking such services in the 21st century. The preferred method of professional hair removal at this point in time for both men and women rapidly is becoming laser hair removal.

There are a number of definite benefits to obtaining professional laser hair removal as opposed to some of the other common methods of dealing with unwanted hair. The only major drawback to professional laser hair removal really appears to the cost associated with the process. However, as technology has improved, the costs associated with the laser procedure has become to drop over time.

The most basic, primary benefit of laser hair removal is found in the fact that for most people only one treatment is required. Once a person submits to the laser hair removal process, unwanted hair normally is removed permanently. In a few isolated cases a person does have to come back for a follow up treatment. With advances in laser technology in the past decade, repeat appearances for additional sessions is becoming more rare all of the time.

The fact that unwanted hair can be removed permanently in most cases through laser hair removal contrasts starkly with other treatment regimens. As an example, waxing to remove hair continues to be used by a considerable number of women and men who want to banish undesired growth. For many people, waxing is at least a monthly if not more frequent process.

Another of the benefits associated with laser hair removal is found in the fact that it is largely pain free. In some instances, a person who has undergone this procedure will experience some skin irritation following the procedure. Certainly, there will be some mild yet temporary redness of the skin following laser hair removal. However, the procedure itself is painless.

Again, you can contrast the pain free removal of unwanted hair with waxing. Depending on what part of your body is being waxed, the process of hair removal in that fashion can be downright painful. Other forms of hair removal, such as shaving, can irritate the skin for a significant period of time. Rashes and other types of unsightly skin blemishes are common following the shaving off of unwanted hair at certain locations on body.

Laser hair removal is also a convenient and time saving method for dealing with unwanted growth. As mentioned previously, more often than not one treatment will work to permanently rid a person of unwanted hair. While a single session under the laser will take longer than one waxing treatment, when all is said and done you will end up saving a great deal of time by undertaking laser hair removal as opposed to other forms of hair removal. You will not need to make continual appointments and interrupt your already full schedule to deal with unwanted hair growth.

In the final analysis, more and more people are turning to laser hair removal as the most reliable, convenient and reasonably priced alternative for the removal of unwanted hair. Indeed, most experts in the field of cosmetics and related services believe that in the very near future, laser hair removal will be the primary means through which both women and men deal with the permanent removal of unwanted hair growth.

If you have high cholesterol and you are thinking about reducing your cholesterol level, do not worry because you can do it yourself and many others are also experiencing the same problem. This can be hard work but worthwhile in the end. There are several ways and steps to be healthy. If you want to be serious, you should closely monitor each step.

There are actually two types of cholesterol in your body, HDL and LDL. The difference between the two is that the HDL cholesterol that is bad for you and your LDL is healthy. An increase in blood cholesterol is very common in most people. Lower cholesterol have the discipline to follow some of these tips:

1. Eat fish. This is an effective way to easily lower cholesterol. Salmon is a good choice because it is high in Omega-3 fatty acids. Flax seed is also a good source of Omega-3.

2. If you love desserts, try to limit them and choose healthier ones. Eating graham crackers, fat-free frozen yogurt, and angel food cake is a nice alternative. Set aside the mouth-watering desserts you have been eyeing.

3. You should eat foods that are rich in fiber. Oatmeal, vegetables, beans, fruits, wheat bread and some cereals are examples of foods that have high fiber.

4. Eat more fruits and vegetables. They are the natural foods that contain no cholesterol at all. You can eat a lot of them without the slightest chance of cholesterol.

5. You must avoid fast foods such as French fries and all the food that is cooked in a deep fryer. These are the foods with the fattiest ingredients. They are dipped into oil and absorb too much oil. Although they are tempting, it is worth the sacrifice. Stay away from burgers too, or reserve them for an occasional special treat.

6. If you like salad, try and find a new salad dressing, which is cholesterol friendly. Most salad dressing is full of cholesterol and Trans fats. Maybe a choice of vinegar with lemon juice or Olive oil will be a good option. Bacon bits, egg yolks and croutons should be avoided.

7. If you really can’t get away from burgers and steak, you can grill them in your backyard and use lean cuts of meat instead. This type of cooking prevents reduces the amount of fat in the meat and barbecuing is fun and enjoyable which makes eating pleasurable.

8. If you want a nice healthy sandwich without the fats, have whole wheat bread with a mix of lean turkey and lots of vegetables. Remember to skip the salami, hot dogs and of course the mayo. This type of food is highly processed with cholesterol and fats.

Now, after all the worries, you realize that adjusting your diet is not hard at all right? Lowering cholesterol is not a hard job. Just have patience and dedication and you will be under their control levels at any time.

Remember, it is important to consult your doctor before making any significant changes in diet or lifestyle. Always follow your advice regarding the control of cholesterol levels.

Problems with the digestive system are among the largest and most dangerous, but often the most ignored. One of the most common causes of digestive problems starts with a problem in the colon. The colon is the waste disposal unit of the body. This is where waste and toxic substances are deposited before they are passed from the body.

A good functioning of the colon has to be able to absorb nutrients and eliminate waste before it can poison the body. If the waste is not disposed of correctly self-produced or re-absorption of toxic waste. It’s really easy to putrefied waste is absorbed through the colon wall into the bloodstream, and then begin to harm other organs of the body. A person can be treated with a colon healthy if he or she is having bowel movements two to three times per day.

Juice fasting is a great way to clean colon. There are several recipes for juice fasting can be done easily at home. Vegetable juices are an excellent colon cleansing, especially if a twenty cups of fresh vegetable juices are consumed. The choice of plants depends on the person of tolerance. Each cup of juice may contain one or two (or more) of the following: carrots, beets, Daikon, radish, fresh celery (root and the two green), ginger, garlic, cayenne, wheat grass, barley, grass dinkel grass, roots and greens, parsley, cabbage, cucumber, pepper and dandelion.

Never use brown, wilted celery because it can be toxic. Use only the freshest vegetables and fruits. Lemons and apples are also great for the colon. The problem with juice fasting recipes is that not everyone has the time to create freshly squeezed juice each time you get hungry.

It is best to buy canning jars containing juices. The first thing to do is line up the juices of materials that can provide at least three quarts of juice. Each of the canning jars were filled to the top so that you can not add more. The following is the record for holding sealer just over the top of the jar and press down. Some juice running down the side of the bottle to allow only a minimal amount of air into the bottle. Then screw the sealing ring to secure the disc.

Next, place all the jars in the refrigerator. This will keep the freshness of the vegetable juices to three days. Just take each one as needed.

However, it is important to drink the juice immediately after opening a bottle. The reason for this is that prolonged exposure to air will destroy the enzymes in the juice. These enzymes are important in the colon cleansing. Canned juices are not beneficial to their health because they do not contain enzymes. Important enzymes can only be removed by drinking juice and then immediately freshly squeezed juices.

In terms of food, raw food is preferred to clean colon. This is because 30 to 85% of the nutrition in foods is destroyed during cooking. Fresh, raw foods contain the highest level of enzymes that are vital to clean colon. These enzymes are the catalysts of the hundreds of thousands of chemical reactions that occur throughout the body. Most cooked foods have been distorted and lack of enzymes and other elements of promotion of life. While cooked food to maintain life, not to promote optimal health and longevity.

Energy Rhios raw recipes are great sources of colon cleansing recipes that are not only delicious but very healthy. There are even raw food restaurants opening as people become more aware of the health benefits and realize that raw foods can be as delicious as the traditional fare.

Note that it is always a good idea to consult a doctor before fasting or radically change their diet in any way.
