Endometriosis Part 157 - Endometriosis And Fennel Seed

As we mentioned in previous articles, endometriosis growing somewhere else other than the endometrium also reacts to hormonal signals of the monthly menstrual cycle by building up tissue, breaking it, and eliminating it through the menstrual period. As we know, herbs play a very important role in some cultures in treating all kinds of diseases. In this article, we will discuss how fennel seed helps to treat endometriosis.
<br />I. Definition
Fennel is a plant in the genus foeniculum family and is also known as xiao hui xiang in Chinese medicine. It has been used for thousand of years to enhance lactation, treat absence of period, and loss of appetite.

II. How fennel seed effects women with endometriosis
1. Phytoestrogen
Fennel seed contains phytoestrogen which inhibits the level of estrogen if it is too high, and raise the level of estrogen if it is too low. For that reason, it has been used in treating hormonal imbalance that causes menstrual disorder, such as cramps and nervous tension.

2. Absence of proriod
It is said that fennel seed helps to release the blood stagnation in the abdomen caused by imbalance of the yang and ying qi. By increasing the blood flow to the region, it helps to bring back the harmony of the reproductive organ resulting in smoothing the uterine muscles as well as bringing on the absence of period.

3. Liver enhancer
Fennel seed helps to normalize the liver function that increases the liver in fat and protein metabolism which helps to inhibit the bad estrogen in the women’s body before or during menstrual cycle. High levels of bad estrogen not only elevates endometrial cramps but also increases the risk of cancer and abnormal cell growth

4. Digestive system
It is also a herb used to increase the function of digestive system resulting in better absorbing of vitamins and minerals that are usually lacking in women with endometriosis during menstrual cycle.

5. Immune system
Besides helping in milk production, fennel seed also helps to strengthen the immune system in fighting against foreign invasion of bacteria, virus, and forming of free radicals as well as endometrial implants and adhesion.

  1. This is an option I am considering for myself, and most insurances are covering it since it's non-invasive and non-surgical.

  2. Lupron Depot (leuprolide acetate for depot suspension) is a GnRH agonist — a hormone that works in two distinct phases. Phase one stimulates the ovaries causing them to produce more of the most potent of the three estrogens produced by women — estradiol. In phase two the messenger hormones that tell the ovaries to produce estrogen decline dramatically. This causes a significant reduction in estrogen levels, and causes women to experience menopause-like side effects.
Lupron is prescribed for women with very bad endometriosis, severe menorrhagia, and before assisted reproduction. In men, Lupron is used to treat advanced prostate cancer, and the drug is used in children who are diagnosed with central precocious puberty (early puberty). Before you decide to use Lupron, make sure you understand the facts about the benefits and side effects so that you can make an informed decision.

    Side Effects and Lupron Depot
Side effects that have been associated with the use of Lupron Depot frequently include hot flashes and night sweats, and less frequently palpitations, syncope, and tachycardias. Other side effects include generalized pain, headaches, vaginitis, nausea/vomiting, fluid retention[, weight gain, acne, hirsutism, joint pain, loss of sexual desire, depression, dizziness, nervousness, and breast changes such as tenderness and pain. There have been no deaths directly related to therapy with Lupron Depot.

Lupron is an effective and medically accepted treatment for endometriosis. Despite the fact that many women do experience side effects during treatment with Lupron Depot, women often consider these side effects to be a necessary price to pay for the relief of the severe pain and suffering of endometriosis.
